ABOUT US

We take our name from Glendalough (pronounced glen-da-lok), the scenic location of St. Kevin's Monastery in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland. Although operating on modern equipment in the United States, we approach publishing in the same cultural tradition as the early Christian monks and scribes.

The Eyewitness: An Anthology of Short Stories and Historical Fiction
by Hilaire Belloc

The EyewitnessWritten with a truly eyewitness quality, these previously uncollected short stories of Hilaire Belloc  transport us to realms of the past and realms of fantasy. This unique volume edited by Matthew Anger contains 25 tales, fables and farces, many appearing in print for the first time since Belloc’s death over a half century ago.

"Hilaire Belloc remains for many an undiscovered gem. Matthew Anger is one of those few who have made the discovery. What is more, he has assembled some of Belloc's finest short stories into one cherishable volume." – Joseph Pearce, author of Old Thunder: A Life of Hilaire Belloc
"Belloc's eloquent time capsules… provide an earthy, man-on-the-street dimension rich with texture, nuance, and flashes of whimsy." – Mary McWay Seaman, New Oxford Review
"Matthew Anger... deserves fulsome praise for compiling this anthology.... The introductory story, ‘The Climax,’ is a compelling look at the world in which Jesus lived." – Chris Chan, Gilbert Magazine

Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953) was a popular early 20th century author who wrote more than 150 works of history, religious apologetics, essays, military science, travel writing and poetry.

Belief and Understanding: Selected Catholic Essays
by Matthew Anger

This volume of Catholic writings offers perspectives on history, culture, literature and philosophy that readers will find at once challenging and orthodox. It discusses such figures as Hilaire Belloc, H. G. Wells, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, St. Augustine, Oscar Wilde, Jacques Maritain, Joseph Pieper and many others.

"[Matthew Anger's] essays remind me especially of an earlier master, the esteemed German Thomist, Joseph Pieper: filled with weighty themes, simply addressed, not confusing the obscure with the profound, the difficult with the true. The Catholic Faith shines in all these essays in its resplendent completeness, put in understandable terms, not overfilled with jargon, not brimming with rancor. These are how essays written in the classical realist style should be: straightforward, yet penetrating as an arrow to the very heart of things." — Walter M. Hudson

Matthew Anger has written for Homiletic & Pastoral Review, Latin Mass, and other Catholic journals. He has also edited The Eyewitness, a new collection of short stories by Hilaire Belloc.
